2020 was....well....2020. Our school went from planning our normal showcase and curriculum, to cancelling the live performance and trying for a virtual show, to fielding complaints from students about making too many videos, to the administration wanting something in the new theatre, to being required to do the show in the theatre in a safe way. So, that meant, filming the numbers, one at a time, in masks, over the course of two days. We ended up with a hybrid show because many students were unable to attend in-person rehearsals, once they resumed. So the show's theme evolved over the course of the three months.
In February, the plan was a theme of Paris! In April we were creating virtual assignments that had to do with the showcase theme and the emotional rollercoaster of this year's pandemic. We ended up with a conversation between five friends lamenting their cancelled spring shows and travel plans, and dreaming about how much they wish they could travel...to Paris! Each girl finds a different part of Parisian life and history fascinating, so in their dreams that night, they each dream a different medley of songs from a musical about Paris.
In addition to the typical showcase content, we created a supplementary video of their educational and personal journey over the course of the semester: discussions, home activities, video assignment highlights, etc. This is still being edited together, but I really look forward to the result!
